ABOUT ME
Some people have called me a hypochandriac because I think the worst whenever I feel sick and run to the doctor for check ups but with a family history of cancer I can't help but think the worst. It seems that everyone I know either has been personally affected by cancer or know someone close that has been affected. Cancer is reaching such epidemic levels that it is very frightening.. Our lifestyles certainly plays a role in our health but what else is it? Is it our environment? The products we use? The food we eat?
My mother is a healthy woman who at 62 is very active and luckily healthier than most women her age but many members of her family have not been that lucky and have been affected by cancer:
My grandmother died of Ovarian cancer just months after being diagnosed at the age of 72.
My grandfather died of Lung cancer, the result of years of smoking.
My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer about 5 years ago and even though she went to her yearly mammograms by the time the cancer was detected she had multiple areas infected with cancer and had to undergo a mastectomy.
My cousin at the age of 25 had to go through radiation after a cancerous tumor was found in her breast.
My 27 year old cousin died of stomach cancer. 5 years as he was getting ready to go to a wedding he felt a sharp pain in his stomach, the pain became so bad that within minutes he collapsed to the floor due to the pain ... later that night he was diagnosed with the latest stages of stomach cancer. He died in less then a year.
How can I not worry? It is definetely in my family's genes but how can I protect myself, how can we prevent and cure cancer?
